GENRES: Blues, Swing, Folk/Acoustic, with a hint of Country and Rock
MUSICAL STYLE: Tracy Weinberg and Friends exemplify the musical eclecticism found in the Central Texas area; they will delight you with their unique mix of blues, swing, folk, with a splash of country and rock, all accompanied with a twist of humor. Our repertoire includes many original songs, covers of classic tunes, running the gamut from Summertime to Crying Time, Black Magic Woman to White Bird, along with a few surprises.
Tracy’s unique singing style and accompaniment on the dojo (resonator banjo) and electric banjo creates a fresh sound that is both brand new and old-timey. Add in the dynamic lead guitar and vocal contributions of Gretchen McMahon, as well as contributions by other talented musicians on bass and/or percussion, and you’ll find the band sure to please your musical palette.
Their sound may remind you at times of various performers or bands, but in reality, they sound exactly like themselves! Find information at www.tracyweinberg.com and be sure to check out their latest music there at Tracy and Friends tab.

TRACY’S BIO: Tracy Weinberg was introduced to music at an early age by two older brothers, who had an awesome collection of 45’s from the late 1950 and early 1960s. Raised in the Chicago area near Ravinia Park, which featured live music in the summer, as a teen he heard the Chicago Symphony, Ravi Shankar, Jesus Christ Superstar, Iron Butterfly, and most everything in between. Taking up banjo at age 16 because "everyone else played guitar," he has always had eclectic tastes and played non-traditional music on the banjo. He began writing original songs in his late teens and throughout his college years. His biggest musical influences include Louis Armstrong, Leon Redbone, Tom Waits, and Bela Fleck.
After taking a musical hiatus, in the midst of his career as a teacher/educator, Tracy renewed his passion for writing and performing and began to play at open mics in the Central Texas area. In the last decade, he has truly found his musical voice and continues to grow and develop as a musician, songwriter, and performer.
He has released two CDs of original material, combining clever, thoughtful lyrics with top-notch instrumental accompaniment. His first recording, Mountains of Dreams, came out in 2012, and charted in the top 30 on the Folk DJ chart. Two songs from this album appeared in the independent film, DisAssocationVille. His second recording, The Other Way Around, was released in 2016. Both albums were co-produced with Tommy Byrd and feature well-known Austin performers Warren Hood, Stanley Smith, Chip Dolan on various keyboards, and many other talented local musicians.
Tracy currently performs both solo and with a band in the Central Texas area, and has played in many venues in San Marcos, Wimberley, New Braunfels, Gruene, Austin, Seguin, Lockhart, and beyond.
